Friday Funnies

1. Remember how I just posted about my love for Nyquil? It has been brought to my attention that my brother, who's the pastor of our church, actually mentioned in a recent sermon that he knows "some people" who are actually addicted to Nyquil. I missed that week because I was out of town. But I only have one thing to say to that..."Hello Kettle, it's me Pot. You're black"!

2. Parker recently went to a Bible study where they were teaching about the fiery furnace. He came home and told me the three men in the fire were Shadrack, Meshek, and Aminuteago. He cracks me up! I was telling Brian about it, and I figured out that I grew up pronouncing it "Uh-BIN -di-go", but Mr. Fancy Pants (Brian) said he has always said it correctly ~ Abednigo. Isn't he just special?

(I just looked up these names to make sure I was spelling them correctly. Apparently, there are several different spellings for each of them. However, none of them are Aminuteago.)

How do you pronounce it??? I need just one of you to please say Bin instead of Bed!

3. One more little story for today that I've been meaning to tell you for a while. Back in May, I went to the Garth Brooks concert in Knoxville with a big group of family. Before the concert, I decided to go get a drink (and let's be honest, there were also peanut m&ms involved). I had noticed all the little whipper snapper twenty-somethings simply stepping over the empty seat in front of them instead of having to crawl over people to make it to the aisle. You see where this is going, right? I knew it was a bad idea before I even started. Unfortunately, I had a family full of cheerleaders who were encouraging me. I'm not even kidding when I tell you that my sister-in-law was LITERALLY cheering, "You can do it! You can do it!" The first foot seemed to go over with ease. As my 39 year old second foot tried to stick the landing, the chair quickly folded under me and trapped my leg as I fell so gracefully to the floor. At this point, my mom is up there yelling, "Her ankle is probably broken!" and my niece Megan was gently chanting, "You're ok, you're ok" as if I was a toddler who just fell off a swing at the playground. Meanwhile, other family members are laughing and thousands (maybe millions) of strangers are looking to see what other kind of pre-concert entertainment I might provide. I'm actually surprised Garth didn't add me to his tour line-up. I make a great opening act!

Please tell me you've done something embarrassing like falling in front of a stadium full of people!

Parker's 12th Birthday (Part 1)

Parker celebrated his 12th birthday on May 12. I seriously can't even believe it. Where did my baby go?

He wanted chocolate chip muffins for breakfast.
Here he is with our family birthday plate for the last several years.

This is a very special birthday for Parker because it is his "golden birthday". In case you don't know, a golden birthday only happens once in your life. It's when your age matches up with the day of the month you were born. So Parker was turning 12 on the 12th. What are the odds that his sister will have her golden birthday this year too?! In honor of his special day, we had gold plates and napkins.

After church, we went to Fazoli's with some family to celebrate. Fazoli's was his choice. A choice that I believe came down to the breadsticks. After all, it's always about the breaksticks, isn't it?

We also moved the party to Dairy Queen for dessert. Because we know how to party.
Parker's having a birthday party with some friends this weekend, so I'll post more pictures then. If I survive the day/night with all those boys.

Summer So Far!

My oh my, I have a lot of catching up to do! We have been super busy with summer fun around here. I have lots of pictures to share, and some of them even go back into May.

Disclaimer: These pictures are in random order. They will stay that way because ain't nobody got time for that.

A bunch of my family went to Emilee's wedding. Emilee is Megan's friend, but we all love her.
The kids and I made our annual trek to Greensboro to visit my cousin Krista. We made the kids pose for the annual "look how we've grown" picture.

We celebrated Father's Day and went to lots of Believer's Church softball games.

We've had some friends come swim with us.

We headed down to Pigeon Forge for the day where the kids had their first experience at Gatti's. (When did they drop the Mr.?)

We also had some fun riding go karts.

There was a picnic in the park on a different day.

We had a fun day at the Aquatic Center nearby.

A quick little trip to Chuck E. Cheese.

Our family girls got together as usual to watch Miss USA. We have a fierce competition as the show moves along where we try to guess who will be in the Top 10, the winner, etc. I am proud to say that I picked Miss Nevada as my first impression, and she won! So I won our little competition.

I have been to the dentist way more times than I care to remember in the last few months. Two root canals, two crowns, and a filling later, and I'm ALMOST fixed. It has not been fun. And definitely not cheap!

Parker got to celebrate his birthday with friends at the pool.

The student ministry at church had a lake get together that was a lot of fun.

Parker's birthday sleepover was exciting with all those boys.

Last Day of School pictures!

Smores!

More last day of school pictures (I told you the pictures were out of order)!

Colin graduated!

Claire did an awesome performance in her classroom that went with a book she read.

Parker & Claire both had straight As this year! Yay!

I'm sure I've missed some things, but this will do for now to get me caught up a little bit. Hope you're having a great summer!

Boy Scout Awards

Parker has been super busy with Boy Scouts lately.  He recently made his pinewood derby car and participated in the race.  He won first place in his den!

Last Saturday, we went to the Blue and Gold Banquet where Parker got to "cross over" officially into Boy Scouts.  He has completed all of the requirements for Cub Scouts, so he is now a Boy Scout.  We are very proud of him!

He received his arrow of light award. The arrow is the last award for Cub Scouts before crossing over to Boy Scouts.  It's a pretty big deal in the Boy Scout world.  He has looked forward to the arrow of light for years.  (I think mostly because he thought it was a sharp weapon!)

Way to go Parker!
